Exel has undertaken a long-term leasehold on a 22,000 m2 distribution centre situated at Bangna Trad KM 16.5 in the Bangkok area. Located closely to links by road, sea and air, the DC will provide a foundation for Exel’s development in the region.
The Bangkok Distribution Centre (BDC) is home to a number of Exel's global customers, and is only 1.5 km away from Bangkok's new international airport that is currently under construction. Exel plans to develop the site further and eventually expand into neighbouring property and extend its current operations.
For Exel, this move represents a continuation of its strategy to strengthen its contract logistics business within Thailand, as well as throughout Asia Pacific. To enable Exel to capture a greater share of business from its global technology customers, there are plans to offer partially bonded and air-conditioned storage.
Paul Graham, chief operating officer for Exel's contract logistics business in Asia Pacific, said: “The Bangkok facility, with its quality warehouse space, together with the excellent location and over 100 skilled staff on-site, will provide a fantastic platform from which Exel can achieve the growth it is seeking in Thailand and the region.”
In other news, John Allan, chief executive of Exel and president of the FTA, issued a statement in response to the news that the Chancellor has frozen fuel duty until September: “I welcome the freeze on fuel duty. With continuing high diesel and oil prices, UK transport operators are already under considerable pressure to remain competitive, and already pay far more for fuel than many other countries. Any increase could have a major, negative impact on the freight industry.”
