Wexham Springs, UK--Red-M is working with tracking technology specialists, BlueTags to test a wireless security system for passenger processing and security measures at airports. The trial is taking place at Billund Airport, Denmark's second-largest airport.
The trial uses Red-M's Genos Wirelessware in conjunction with BlueTags' tracking technology to identify and begin monitoring passengers when they arrive at the airport and until their flights depart. Frequent and business travelers are authenticated electronically so they do not need to go through all the traditional security processes at the airport, improving their travel experience by cutting down on delays.
Upon arrival at the security check, information related to the passenger's unique Bluetooth identification appears on a screen in front of the security officer. Information such as a photograph, fingerprint or iris scan can be stored on the tag, allowing the officer to ascertain the BlueTag carrier's identity and allow him/her to proceed.
Participating passengers are pre-registered in an airport membership database, submitting personal information such as name, address and mobile phone number along with passport information and security-related input in the form of biometrics.
Genos Wirelessware integrates, on a single platform, user authentication, access control, secure session management, service provisioning, quality of service, centralized network management, and an application programming interface (API). BlueTags' tracking software uses the Genos API to track and locate customers bearing the tag, enabling data storage of customer information.
"Security and comfort of passengers is at the top of every airport's agenda worldwide, and this trial has the potential to deliver tremendous value in terms of time savings for our customers without compromising safety," said Joergen Krab Joergensen, CEO of Billund Airport. "The advantage of the system is that it is possible for us to improve a passenger's airport experience and in the future offer further services such as airport information and tailor-made offers from shops around the airport via a mobile phone."
