Savi Technology Ensure Security Of Supply Chain Containers
Savi Technology, the provider of real-time solutions for the management and security of supply chain assets, have introduced Savi Transportation Security software, an application that monitors and manages the physical security of containers and their contents as they pass through the global supply chains.
Savi Transportation Security software is part of Savi's integrated three-part approach to supply chain security. Together with Savi's SmartSeal(TM) family of electronic seals based on Savi's EchoPoint(TM) Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and UDAP, Savi's open communications protocol that enables interoperability with other automated data collection systems such as Barcode, GPS and other hardware-based systems.
Savi's system is designed as a flexible, cost-effective way for shippers, logistics service providers, asset owners, or other enabling parties, such as carriers and ports, to enhance their "real time" capabilities of container tracking and security. Savi's system can be deployed and integrated with existing processes and programs to enhance automation, visibility, management and status of selected containers. This enhancement of real-time visibility and management provides not only the underlying infrastructure for security but also provides customers with tangible benefits in optimizing the efficiencies of their supply chain operations.
"Our integrated supply chain security solution is unique in that it can ensure that all container movements can be accounted for from point of origin to destination and that their status and condition can be continuously monitored," said Blair LaCorte, executive vice-president of Savi Technology. "With this data electronically maintained with the container, we can enable the `virtual inspection' of every container in advance of arrival."
The introduction of the Savi Transportation Security application follows the company's introduction last year of its line of SmartSeal(TM) electronic seals for supply chain containers. Savi's SmartSeal portfolio of electronic seals for supply chain security are based on EchoPoint(TM) technology, a 6th-generation RFID technology from Savi. Conforming to all US and international standards, Savi's SmartSeal RFID seal tags are designed as rugged electronic seals that for both single-use and reusable deployments.
Savi's model was based on a standard bolt seal and is designed for use with standard intermodal containers, rail cars, and trailers. A SmartSeal model based on fiber-optic cable, announced three weeks ago, has the flexibility and adaptability to make it ideal as an electronic security seals for non-standard types of cargo containers such as Unit Load Devices (ULDs) used to containerize air cargo.
Savi's security solution is designed to gather and report to authorized parties all records of inspection and sealing activity, including confirmation that seals and containers remain secured as they move from origin to destination and to provide immediate alerts of any unauthorized tampering or exceptions to defined security processes. agents who can set aside containers that have been "mishandled," even if the seal remains intact. Savi's security solution also has configurable workflows that recognize conditions such as preferred port, preferred carrier and/or conformation of seal and container integrity to qualify containers for fast track inspection processes. In addition to raising electronic alarms and streamlining inspection processes, user configurable workflows would direct personnel or other systems to route specific containers or similar containers to inspection locations based on breaches of security conditions.
