Customers are warned not to call 090 telephone numbers to arrange for parcels to be delivered. Genuine delivery companies do not expect customers to call premium rate numbers to organise deliveries.
Customers have complained to Postwatch after receiving a card that says that a company is holding a parcel from overseas for them. The card asks customers to telephone a premium rate telephone number at £1.50 per minute to arrange delivery.
The card, from a company called Parcel Plus, advises that calls to the 090 number have a maximum duration of seven minutes. That means customers could spend £10.50 trying to arrange delivery.
Postwatch is urging customers to telephone the ICSTIS (the Independent Committee for the Supervision of standards of Telephone information service) on 0800 500 212 (9am –4pm, Monday to Friday) if they receive such a card. Postwatch strongly advises customers not to call a 090 number to arrange for a delivery.
