The winners of the Graeme Robertson Trust DM competition, run in association with the DMA, will attend one of the most prestigious events in the direct marketing calendar – the DMA Awards.
In the year in which the DMA Awards marks its silver anniversary, aspiring young creatives Robert Prangle and Jon Owens, both from the University of Gloucestershire, will attend the Awards Ball on December 6 at the Grosvenor House Hotel. The pair won the GRT creative award by resurrecting the 1970s Golden Wonder snack Ringos as part of a mailing to promote bar snacks.
Dave Harris, Creative Partner at LIDA and Trustee of the Graeme Robertson Trust said of the Ringos mailing: "It shone out from some of the other entries because of its clarity of thought; its simple execution; and its sense of fun."
The Direct Marketing Association has also announced it is funding an annual bursary of £5,000 to help young copywriters and art directors in the early stages of their career in the industry.
The DMA bursary will be offered to the most promising creative individual or team identified from the finalists of the Graeme Robertson Trust award scheme. It is intended that the money will fund a three month work placement at a London direct/integrated agency and is separate from the prize provided to the winner of the Graeme Robertson Trust award. This year however, the winners of the GRT Award also managed to scoop the bursary prize due to the quality and creativity of their portfolio.
Commenting on the winners work as presented in their bursary portfolio, Dave Harris said: "It was refreshing to see young creatives with a book packed with strong creative ideas which had an insight into the audience they were talking to. Their work is fresh, brave and well thought out, but most of all, we were impressed with Jon and Rob's boundless enthusiasm."
Robert and Jon’s winning GRT entry will also feature as part of this year’s DMA Awards Annual. Only in its second year, the high-quality, stylish hardback book features the Grand Prix, Gold, Silver and Bronze winners of this the silver jubilee DMA Awards.
Mike Barnes, DMA Director of Marketing and Business Development commented, “The DMA Awards are all about recognising extraordinary talent and we are thrilled to feature two obviously up and coming talents of the industry. Being part of the Annual means their work will be alongside the best of the best in UK direct marketing. ”
