The UK Direct Marketing Association launches The Young Direct Marketing Awards to give pupils an exciting insight into the world of marketing communications
The DMA today announced the launch of The Young Direct Marketing Awards. The Awards will help children work towards national curriculum requirements by giving them direct experience in the creative and business principles behind marketing communication. The competition will be run in conjunction with three national, UK charities.
Students are invited to work in teams with their classmates to devise a direct marketing campaign for one of three UK charities that will be taking part in this scheme. In addition, each team will be asked to design and produce a piece of direct mail to tie in with their campaign. The group will compete against other schools in their geographical region and the regional finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony in June 2006. Three national winners will be announced at the awards ceremony and the winners will all see their direct marketing campaign become a reality.
Children from Years 7 to 10 are invited to enter the competition and these Awards will promote key national curriculum objectives across all four years. The Young Direct Marketing Awards will support four subject areas, English, Business studies, Art and Young Enterprise, by fostering creativity in the use of language and design and providing practical experience in planning a business campaign and understanding the principles behind marketing.
Mike Barnes, DMA Director of Marketing and Business Development said, “Direct marketing is a fundamental channel of communication for most organisations, with over 73%* of UK companies carrying out some form of dm. To get school children to understand direct marketing and to teach the skills as part of the education process is a worthy objective, especially when the end result is hopefully three successful fundraising campaigns.”
