Thierry Henry made history today (5 May) by becoming the first player in the Premier League to win the Barclays Golden Boot Award four times.
The top scorer in the Barclays Premiership this season, Henry was presented with the Barclays Golden Boot Award after Arsenal’s victory against Wigan on Sunday. He also received a £27,000 donation for his chosen charity, £1,000 for every goal he scored in the Barclays Premiership this season.
Henry beat off competition from Manchester United’s Ruud van Nistelrooy and Charlton’s Darren Bent, who ended the season with 21 goals and 18 goals respectively. Henry made a late surge for the Barclays Golden Boot Award after being beaten to the 10 goal landmark by Frank Lampard and the 20 goal landmark by Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Henry scored 27 goals in 32 Barclays Premiership games this season. This includes two hat-tricks.
Barclays Sponsorship Director Matt Appleby said: "Thierry Henry’s fantastic performance has made for an exhilarating season. His ability to deliver match-winning goals has played a huge part in Arsenal’s success, not least in their crucial win at Highbury yesterday. Remarkably, he is the first player, since Alan Shearer, to win a hat-trick of consecutive Golden Boot Awards."
