Newcastle legend Alan Shearer will be presented with a special Barclays Platinum Boot Award at half time during the Newcastle v Chelsea match on Sunday 7th May.
The unique award, made from a metal 30 times rarer than gold, honours Shearer’s standing as the highest goal scorer in Premier League history.
In a glittering thirteen year Premier League career, Shearer hit the back of the net 260 times in 441 Premier League appearances; a ratio of more than one goal every two games. His closest current rival in the all-time scoring charts is Andy Cole, whose tally stands at 176.
Matt Appleby, from the Barclays Award panel, said: “The Barclays Platinum Boot is a unique Award for a player who truly is one of a kind. Alan’s goal scoring record over the past decade is nothing short of phenomenal. His trademark celebration will be sorely missed.”
The Barclays Platinum Boot is a unique Award that recognises Alan Shearer’s goal scoring contribution to Premier League Football. The Barclays Golden Boot is awarded to the highest goal scorer in the Barclays Premiership each season.
Shearer himself won the Golden Boot on no fewer than three occasions and is the only striker in Premier League history to have scored more than one hundred goals for two different clubs (Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers).
