The Direct Marketing Association (UK), the leading trade association of business and non profit institutions, is to support the inaugural Green Awards as an institutional partner. The association joins a prestigious list of supporting organisations, which includes Friends of the Earth and the United Nations Environment Programme.
Created and produced by Satellite Marketing Communications, the Green Awards will culminate ina unique and inspiring ‘green tie’ event at London’s Guildhall on 29 November 2006, which will showcase the value of sustainable development through powerful communications and marketing strategies.
James Kelly, managing director, Direct Marketing Association, says, "As Europe's largest marketing and communications trade association, we are in a strong position to influence and drive change to deliver sustainable solutions in the marketing industry. We aim to lead by example and, as a result environmental issues play a key role in shaping the DMA's core policies.
“The Green Awards’ ethos fits perfectly with our environmental aims and our support for the Awards is testament to the industry's ongoing commitment to its environmental responsibilities."
Satellite hails the support of the DMA as particularly significant because direct marketers can directly influence organisations. The DMA has already made a commitment to the government to achieve its environmental aims and made significant progress in achieving these targets. This includes launching environmental campaigns in association with leading environmental charities such as the Woodlands Trust and Planet Ark; raising awareness of services available to consumers who do not wish to receive direct mail; promoting more targeted data usage; and initiatives toincrease the amount of direct marketing being recycled.
The Green Awards are for both business-to-business and business-to-consumer organisations with a cross-sectoral appeal, which is reflected by the scope and breadth of individual and institutional supporters.
