Barclays today announced the appointment of Vittorio de Stasio to the newly created position of chief executive, International Retail and Commercial Banking, Italy. He will report to Jacobo Gonzalez-Robatto, chief executive, Southern Europe, International Retail and Commercial Banking.
Mr de Stasio will be responsible for Barclays growing retail and commercial banking business in Italy and for Banca Woolwich, one of the country’s most successful mortgage lenders. In March 2006, Barclays announced its intention to build a network of around 50 Barclays branded branches in Italy within the next twelve months. The first of these branches, targeting affluent consumers, opened in Milan in July.
Mr de Stasio joins Barclays from Capitalia where he worked for eight years, initially at Banco di Roma and for the last four years as general manager of Bipop-Carire. In this role he turned around the performance of Bipop-Carire’s 300 branches in Northern Italy. Prior to working for Capitalia, Mr de Stasio worked for eleven years at Deutsche Bank.
Jacobo Gonzalez-Robatto, chief executive, Southern Europe, International Retail and Commercial Banking, said: “Vittorio de Stasio has a very impressive record in Italian retail banking. His retail and commercial banking experience working in the industry in Italy, for both local and international banks, will be invaluable for Barclays as we bring our attractive offering to the Italian market.”
Colin Vincent will continue to be general manager of Banca Woolwich reporting to Mr de Stasio
