The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) is fully supportive of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) move to serve an enforcement notice on five companies, which have been found to be in breach of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
James Kelly, managing director, Direct Marketing Association, says: “The ICO had previously been very generous in allowing companies time to change processes to comply with Ofcom’s requirements. However, all companies should now be aware of these requirements, leaving no reason why they should not abide by PECR.
“The DMA is dedicated to the protection and development of the UK telemarketing industry. As telemarketing is increasingly under scrutiny, there is an even greater need to protect consumers from inappropriate behaviour by unscrupulous or rogue companies. It is therefore essential that companies in breach of industry regulations are penalised accordingly to enable us to maintain high standards within the direct marketing industry.”
