A budding team of young marketers has worked with the Woodland Trust to make their winning campaign a reality. The pupils from Bradford Girls’ Grammar School won the Woodland Trust category of the Young Direct Marketing Awards in 2006 and have now spent a day working with the marketing and creative team at the Woodland Trust headquarters to put the finishing touches to their work.
The campaign, entitled ‘Adopt a Tree’, was designed by Firdaus Kader, Victoria Powne and Helen Tempest – currently in Year 11. Especially designed for a younger audience, the completed pack will be distributed to all senior pupils and their parents at Bradford Girls’ Grammar School. Recipients are encouraged to adopt a tree at Briscoe Wood, North Rigton in North Yorkshire. However, several trees will also be planted in the grounds of the school to celebrate the girls’ achievement.
Mike Barnes, from the Young Direct Marketing Awards, says: “It’s fantastic that the girls now get to see their campaign become a reality in their local area. We’ll look forward to seeing some of these budding marketers enter the industry in the future.”
Phil Shipway, Direct Marketing Manager, The Woodland Trust, adds: “The Woodland Trust was delighted to be involved in the Awards and amazed by the high standard of the entries. It was wonderful to see that our passion is shared by young people at schools and that they are able to transfer it on to paper in way which many professional copywriters and art directors would be proud to include in their portfolios. Firdaus, Victoria and Helen achieved something we have never been able to do which is to make trees 'cute' and to give them a personality with which young people can identify."
This year’s Young Direct Marketing Awards are now open for entries. For further information, please visit: www.ydma.co.uk/
