Ericsson's industry-leading softswitch system ENGINE R4 has been awarded Network Access Licenses issued by Chinas Ministry of Information Industry (MII). This makes Ericsson the only supplier that has passed the tests with a complete telephony softswitch and multimedia service softswitch solution in China.
In 2002, Ericsson's ENGINE R4 passed all rigid tests implemented by experts of MII's Research Institute of Telecommunications Transmission. Following network access tests, Ericsson's softswitch solutions for telephony and multimedia services have now succeeded in obtaining official licenses.

In March 2002, Ericsson signed a contract with China Telecom Group in Beijing, under which Ericsson offered equipment for the operators Next Generation Network trial and deployed ENGINE R4 solutions in Guangzhou and Shenzhen branches of the group.
