A new hi-tech teaching tool launched today will help young people steer clear of mobile phone theft.
The CD-Rom, called 'Out of your hands?', is aimed at 11 to 14 year olds and will be made available to every school in the country.
It will help children to learn about the problem of phone theft, get tips on how to avoid crime and find out what to do if their phone is lost or stolen. It also highlights the consequences of getting involved in mobile phone crime.
Home Office Minister Hazel Blears said phone thieves often target young people, and this new tool will show them how to avoid becoming a victim.
"This CD-Rom builds on the work we have already done with the mobile phone industry and police through the Immobilise campaign and the database of lost and stolen phones which renders phones useless once they have been reported missing."
People can report lost or stolen phones by calling 08701 123 123. This will block the phone and prevent it being used on any network.
The CD-Rom has been funded by the Home Office and the Mobile Industry Crime Action Forum
