AT&T Wireless has announced the launch of GPRS in the New York City market. At the beginning of September 2002, the operator launched GSM/GPRS services in Boston, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh. AT&T Wireless first launched GPRS in Seattle in July 2001.
At the same time as extending its GPRS network to New York City, AT&T Wireless began to offer three new handsets for its GPRS networks across the USA. The Siemens SX56 PDA retails for USD 549.99. It is the second product Siemens has launched on the US market. AT&T Wireless is also offering two Nokia handsets; the 3590 and the 6590. The 3590 will retail for USD 79.99 after rebate; it is a Java and MMS capable model. The 6590 will sell for USD 149.99 after rebate, it supports MMS. All three models are GPRS capable.
Other GPRS models currently offered by AT&T Wireless include the Sony Ericsson T68i (USD 149.99 after rebate), the Nokia 8390 (USD 99.99 after rebate) and the Siemens S46 (USD 99.99 after rebate). The operator has stated that it will soon begin offering the Motorola T720 (USD 249.99), the Nokia 6310i (USD 129.99 after rebate) and the Blackberry 5810 (USD 299.99 after rebate).
