There has been considerable media comment regarding
the late supply of data for the project, but Andy Blundell, Business Development
Director at BemroseBooth, believes the UK printer’s role in processing
the data, once received, made it one of the most sophisticated certificate
and ticketing jobs ever undertaken for an international sporting event.
Andy Blundell said: “To tighten security and minimise black market activity, every ticket was personalised to an individual or a sponsor, showing the game, venue and precise seat allocation details. The project included both the advance issue ticket packs and thermal tickets for on-demand personalisation at over 25 centres in Japan and Korea. For the first time both advance issue and thermal tickets had identical security features.
“We had to work in Japanese, Korean, Spanish, German, French and English and, for the first time, laser personalise using Japanese and Korean fonts. The tickets were subsequently machine mail matched in variable volumes to personalised smartcards and letters, before being onward delivered to home addresses all over the world.
“The largest machine filled packs contained up to 28 tickets, four smartcards and an addressed letter, together with a number of generic information inserts. Full audit trails were maintained with 100% mailing integrity throughout the whole process.”
Working under conditions of strict confidentiality, a dedicated team from BemroseBooth’s Secure Mail division completed the fast-turnaround personalisation assignment in just over six weeks, gaining official commendation on their performance by the general secretary of FIFA.
Jaime Byrom, Chief Executive Officer of 2002 FIFA World Cup Ticketing Bureau added:
“The implementation of FIFA’s ticket distribution policies required not only leading-edge technology, but also the support and co-operation of all key players.
“BemroseBooth’s total commitment and dedication to the success of this unprecedented project was invaluable. I share the general secretary’s belief that in BemroseBooth we found the right company for this challenging project.”
