Low-cost RFID labels
Low-cost RFID labels, which use radio frequency identification,
are a highly reliable and efficient way to control, detect, and track and
trace electronically a large number of movable assets. This makes RFID systems
ideal for many logistic and secure
supply chain applications.
Low-cost RFID labels can contain two types of transponders
- active and passive. Active transponders include a small battery. Passive
transponders get their energy from an FM signal sent from a 'reader'. The
'smart' labels embedding passive transponders contain a unique factory-programmed
ID code and can be read at a distance of up to a meter. (RFID
is sometimes also called dedicated short-range communication - DSRC). The
code can contain names, dates, the product shelf life, history of its transport
and much other data besides. Active RFID transponders are fully programmable
by the user.
RFID systems do not require traditional line-of-sight
between the 'smart' asset
label and the reader, which allows them to overcome the limitations of
other automatic asset tracking methods. RFID labels work effectively in harsh
environments where dirt, dust, moisture and poor visibility affect barcode
solutions or some other automated identification systems.
The reliability and versatility of RFID systems means a saving of cost and time, and human error.
Our low-cost RFID labels aid -
- Postal
and courier services, where the method maintains real-time information
on shipments from departure to receipt, making just-in-time delivery a realistic
goal.
- Supply-chain and warehousing
logistics, recording track automatically, and reporting the movement of
items. This simplifies inventory control.
- Retail environments, with the prevention of unauthorised
removal because RFID's low cost and simplicity makes obsolete other electronic
article surveillance (EAS).
- Industrial settings with the tracking of high-value products
through processing, assembly or packing.
- Flexible manufacture systems to improve process control
with identification of product variants.
- In office applications or automated library systems for
effective document tracking.
- In demanding environments of medical, pharmaceutical
or chemical labelling.
The low-cost RFID labels can be attached to envelopes, packing
cartons, shipping pallets, conveyor bins, and many other low-cost items. Our
'smart' labels can be embedded with passive or active transponders, made durable
or easily removable, chemical or waterproof, tamper-evident, tamper-proof
or tear-proof, printed in a variety of colours and designs, and customised
to perform a wide range of technical requirements.
